Accessibility statement
This accessibility statement covers the website at stemeup.com, which is run by STEMeUp Ltd.
The standard we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2, level AA, the international standard for accessible websites. We believe the site meets it, except for the limitations listed below. This is based on our own testing, not an independent audit. We check the site against these criteria whenever we change it.
What’s in place
- The whole site can be used with a keyboard alone, including the navigation and the forms. There is a visible focus indicator and a skip-to-content link on every page.
- Text colours meet WCAG AA contrast requirements against the background, including small labels inside diagrams.
- Every meaningful image and chart has a text alternative describing what it shows. Decorative artwork is hidden from screen readers.
- All animation respects the “reduce motion” setting on your device. With it switched on, content appears immediately with no movement.
- Three things move on their own: the video on the home page, and the grid of squares and the “Gap map” drawing on the How it works page. Each has a Pause button, and with “reduce motion” switched on none of them moves. The video has no sound or speech; it and the grid are decorative and carry nothing that the words on the page do not say.
- Pages use semantic headings and landmarks, so screen-reader users can move between sections.
- Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content, and the layout adapts to small screens and zoomed viewports.
- Form fields have visible labels. Nothing on the site flashes or imposes time limits.
Known limitations
- The animated diagrams (such as the drawing on the How it works page) are visual by nature. Each one has a written description, and the same information is given in the surrounding text, but the animation itself is not narrated.
- Some diagram labels use our display typeface at small sizes. All essential information is repeated in regular body text.
