For FE colleges

A resit year is short. Start with what each student is missing.

STEMeUp finds the earlier gaps behind each student’s grade and gives every class a plan, for the November and May sittings.

Two resit cohorts, one plan.

Every student takes the same gap map in September. What happens next depends on when they sit.

The November cohort

Close to a grade 4, sitting in November.

Usually the students who got a 3.

  • The gap map shows the few topics between each student and a 4.
  • The weeks before November go on those topics, and nothing else.
  • A quick check for the whole class, and a different one for each student.

The May cohort

A longer road, sitting in May.

Everyone further from a 4.

  • Foundations first: the earliest gaps fill before new topics.
  • A plan for every class, built from its students’ gaps.
  • Your own mock marks sit beside the map, so you can see who is falling behind between mocks.

Who we built this with.

We built STEMeUp with FE colleges and the people around each resit student. Each of them asks a different question.

  • Students “What do I actually need to do?” The gaps behind their grade, in order. Our AI tutor starts at the earliest one and asks them to explain it back.
  • Parents “How is it going?” What their child is working on and how it’s going, in plain words. Only if the student chooses to share it.
  • Maths teachers “What do I teach this class on Monday?” Who shares the same gap and can be taught together, who is ready for new topics, and who has gone quiet. One check for the whole class, or a different one for each student.
  • Heads of maths “Which students need us first?” Every student in the college on one screen: who is on track, who is stuck, who has gone quiet, and the mistakes the whole cohort keeps making.
  • Principals and senior leaders “Are we on track for results day?” Progress across the whole resit cohort, every term, in a report ready to print.
